learn more

SGI provides a wide array of volunteer opportunities, on the spectrum from working individually or at home to working in teams or hard, physical labor outdoors. You may choose to put your current knowledge and skills to use, or you may wish to learn more and develop a new expertise or hobby.

SGI volunteers participate in citizen science projects that contribute much needed data to our growing understanding of our southern grasslands, past and present. They contribute time and energy toward seed collection, direct restoration of habitat, and species conservation. They also act as advocates, whether speaking, writing, or social media.

sign up

The first step to volunteering with SGI is to join our volunteer list. In doing so, you will immediately begin receiving our quarterly newsletter as well as announcements about upcoming volunteer opportunities. Depending on your location, we may also connect you with local or state-based grassland conservation partners who could use a helping hand.

show up

The best part happens when you show up. Whether working from your armchair at home or attending a community event, when you receive the call from SGI, show up and bring a friend if you’d like. We try to provide at least 2 weeks advance notice for volunteer events, but this is not always possible.
